Joseph Dark, a pioneer resident of this section died last Friday morning at 2 o'clock after an extended illness from Bright's disease and dropsy. Joseph Dark was born August 27, 1845 and died Aug 8, 1902 aged 56 years 11 months and 11 days. He was married to Emily Stull Oct 18, 1868. To this union 8 children were born, all of whom are living except one Loy, who died in infancy. He joined the United Brethren Church several years ago at old Harveysburg during a meeting held by Rev BB Phelps and lived a Christian life for quite a while, but owning "to the temptations of the world he grew cold for a time yet he never lost the desire to live a Christian. And while on his bed of affliction he renewed his covenant with the Lord and found peace and pardon. His sickness was long and severe, yet he bore it with patience, never murmuring nor complaining of his lot. But he often spoke of his home and desired to go and be with the angels, where the weary cease from troubling and are at rest." Some of his last words were "I want to go home." The funeral services took place at the Friends' Church in Kingman and were conducted by Rev. IM McHarge, Rev Dr. Mendenhall and Rev. Levi Woody, all of kingman after whic the reamins were taken to the Harveysburg cemtery.
